Riding the Rails

One of the most relaxing ways to take in the autumn panoramas is a quaint train ride through the stunning natural vistas that help make Muskoka country a hub of the cottage industry. The Heritage Place Museum in Huntsville offers a relaxing 30-minute trip back in time along the Muskoka River on the historic Portage Flyer. This 100 year old steam train ran from 1904 to 1959 carrying people and supplies between the Steamships Algonquin in North Portage and Iroquois in South Portage. Today, visitors can take in the vibrant seasonal colours from inside the original passenger cars, which run daily between September 5th and October 7th.

Exploring Georgian Bay Islands National Park

The world’s largest freshwater archipelago was established as a national park in 1929, and is home to the famous windswept pines that dot the otherwise barren granite shores. They provide a beautiful introduction to the breathtaking change of season showcased at the park’s 3,459 acres that are spread out across 63 islands. The largest isle, Beausoleil, boasts 11 distinct trails designed for everyone from avid outdoors trekkers to leisurely day hikers, and includes wheelchair accessible paths. The Southern trails near the campsites offers magnificent lookout points which showcase the vivid wooded scenes of this national wonder.

Treetop Adventures

Zip lining through Muskoka’s treescapes is an unforgettable experience that allows participants to immerse themselves in the autumn scenery while having a great time with friends and family. Muskoka Zip Lines Aerial Park in Bracebridge offers a Canopy Tour, Adventure Course, and Jump Tower, while nearby Huntsville is home to Treetop Trekking’s Zip Line & Aerial Game Trek courses. Adventure seekers can even enjoy a fun ‘ZipandSip’ Package at the new Brewhouse Huntsville, and take in more fantastic fall colours in the laid back downtown setting.

Tee Time

Seven of Muskoka’s gorgeous golf courses made SCOREGolf’s 100 Best List in 2018, and they feature an amazing array of multi-coloured vistas, superb playability, and the most the important criteria of all in the rankings: they are loads of fun. Take a look at the courses that made this years list below, and then check out all of the district’s exquisitely designed fairways for some of the most spectacularly scenic tee times found anywhere in the nation.
